Mountain to Sea: North Carolina

Are you ready to have the best summer of your life? Panacea Adventures 18 day Mountain to Sea program is fun of epic proportions! You’ll spend the days savoring wilderness adventure in the form of kayaking and backpacking, rock climbing, zip-lines, surfing and whitewater rafting; outdoor activities on land and sea will push you and test you, and the wilderness journey will leave you with new friendships and incredible memories. Mountain to Sea focuses on teamwork, decision-making and leadership skills.

June 18-July 6

The Mountain to Sea program happens over the course of 18 days and covers hundreds of miles. Linking rock-climbing, backpacking, rafting, sea kayaking and surfing, this adventure starts in the rugged mountains and ends in the barrier islands of North Carolina and the Atlantic Oceran. Throughout this course participants will develop a high level of competency in the outdoors skills needed for success in backcountry travel. Our unique wilderness curricula involving educational and process groups teaches leadership, decision making, problem solving, team-work, conflict resolutions and values clarification. Dedicated educators and councilors facilitate the curriculums to allow for students to transfer the "wilderness learning" to the "real world learning".

Ages 14 and up. Group rates available for parties of 6 or more.


Flight Information:

  • Arrive in Wilmington NC (ILM) between 7 PM and 11 PM on June 17.

Driving:

  • If you plan on driving to Panacea Adventures for the Mountain to Sea program, please plan to be a Panacea Adventuree 17th of June or July between 2-4 PM.

We reserve the right to alter or change the itinerary prior to or throughout the course as Panacea Adventures is committed to providing an above quality program. Itinerary changes may occur do to severe weather, motivation of students, unpredictable disasters, permit regulations, potential threat to safety. Comparable adventures/activities will be substituted when possible and you will be notified of any significant changes in the itinerary.

  • June 18: Introductions and pre-trip planning. Students will be fitted for all their gear, sort, organize and pack all of their personal and group gear for the 18 day adventure. Drive to Pisgah National Forest.
  • June 19-24: Rock climb at Looking Glass for 3 days. We will have ropes set up for all abilities to reach their true potential and see the epic views at the top of their climb. We will leave on a 3 day hike reaching peaks of 6,000 ft to Black Balsam.
  • June 25-27: 3 days of overnight rafting on the wild and scenic Chattooga River.
  • June 28: Layover day. Resupply groceries, clean van, de-brief the past experiences and plan for the future adventures.
  • June 29-July 1: Kayak and climb
  • July 2: Zipline and canopy tour. Over rivers, through the woods, across beautiful waterfall, a pure adrenaline rush while soaking up the beauty's of the natural world.
  • July 3-4: Overnight sea kayak and surfing expedition on the barrier islands of North Carolina.
  • July 5: Debriefing and gear check in. The Mountain to Sea course will end at 2 PM. Panacea Adventures will provide transportation to the airport for those flying out.
